Do you have Flat Feet?

Posted in What's New at 11:21 pm by Sue

Well, you should! (Sorry, couldn’t resist – I’m a sucker for bad puns!) I’ve been so busy getting our latest shipment of Flat Feet sock yarn photographed and up on the website, and I just finished. No small feat – we photograph every single Flat Feet yarn and list them individually. You told me you really don’t want to hear “let us choose one for you”. So we don’t do it that way. We take lots of photos so you can see exactly what you’re getting – and we’ll send you the very same yarn you see in the photo! Just don’t wait too long to check them out – our last shipment of Flat Feet sold out in just a day and a half!

Flat Feet in action Don’t know what Flat Feet is? (Flat Feet are? Are these things singular or plural??) It’s the newest innovation in sock knitting – the yarn comes in two connected “flats” or panels of stockinette stitch, hand-dyed in color combinations ranging from tame to wild! And here’s the cool part: you UNRAVEL it to knit! You know how you frog back or unravel your knitting when you need to go back a few rows? (Going back a few rows is something I am quite familiar with, unfortunately.) Well, this is similar, except the flat knitted piece you’re unravelling is actually your “ball” of yarn – you knit directly from it! And it folds flat in your knitting bag. Neat, huh?

Did you notice that the paragraph above is not showing up next to the Flat Feet photo? Can any of you who blog in Wordpress email me to tell me how to get the text to appear next to photos? I’m new to Wordpress, and I’m having some adjustment issues…

You’ve been asking for a sale – okay, here ya go! Take 25% off of Lily Chin Chelsea yarn – regularly $6.00, on sale for $4.50, now thru July 4th. Chelsea’s a great year-round yarn for warmer climates, and a super summer yarn for the rest of you. It’s a wool/cotton/acrylic blend in sport weight – great for socks, summer tops and cardigans, and baby items too.

And a contest too? I must be punchy from taking all those Flat Feet photos – okay, we’ll do a blog contest. Just post a comment about your favorite thing to knit (socks? baby items? fairisle sweaters?), and ask your friends to post too. Make sure your friends mention YOU in their posts. If at least 15 people comment by midnight on July 4th, I’ll give away two $15 store credits toward your next Great Yarn Company order – the first will go to the winner of a random drawing that includes everyone who commented, and the second will go to the person mentioned in the most comments! (Go on, bribe your friends – who’ll know??!)

Counting blog comments (and sheep – it’s LATE!),
Sue

I’ve read about Flat Feet, and I’ve seen maybe one photo in a magazine, but I’ve never seen all the photos that you have, Sue! Wow! This is wildly wild stuff! Maybe when I get more money, I can order some. (Have gone back to school–to become a massage therapist–and am living the starvin’ student life while in my mid-50s.)

The main thing, though, is that I’m thrilled you survived the whole Katrina thing and that you’ve moved on–literally and figuratively. I was worried about you! I’m thrilled you’ve landed in a knitter-friendly place. That’s great!

    Glad to’ve found you again.

    Warmly,

Oops! We were supposed to comment about favorite things to knit. Right now, I’m so busy with school–who knew that massage therapy school would be so intense re: anatomy, physiology, pathology, etc?–that I’m not knitting much. I keep an emergency knitting kit in my car, so that I can knit in traffic jams, at stoplights, while waiting for them to clear tree limbs outta the way (a frequent problem here), on breaks at school, etc. What I have in my emergency knit kit is a critter blanket. I knit them on size 13 needles with three skeins of yarn at once, using the typical dishcloth pattern (start with three stitches, increase one stitch every row, use only garter stitch, get the blanket big enough and then start decreasing one stitch per row), and when I get about a dozen, I ship or bring them to an animal shelter or animal rescue for them to put in cages with cats or dogs or rabbits or hamsters or gerbils or you name it. So, I guess critter blankets are my current favorite thing to knit.

Ronda (Trent), flat feet are super! I had to laugh the first time I read about them, though. You (or someone) knits a rectangle and THEN the knitter unravels the knitting to knit something else! Just like quilting, you cut up fabric to sew it again to make a quilt. Go figure…..knitters and quilters are THE BEST!

My favorite things to knit would be baby sweaters (for gifts) and baby hats (for the hospital) and socks! And felted bags! And shawls…and well, just about anything! I take a knitting project with me EVERYWHERE I go…you just never know when you might have a chance to knit!
I love the idea of the Flat Feet yarn – very unique and very cool!!! It looks like it would be incredibly fun to come up with different color combos too!

My favorite is sweaters, but I’ve been branching out lately to use up yarn that I don’t have enough of to make a sweater. In fact I have three unfinished sweaters just languishing whilst I digress. I’ve posted about the contest on my blog, I’m hear because Darcy Knotty Knitter shared the news on her blog.

I go through phases. I went through my sock knitting phase because everyone else was and I must say I’d love to try flatfeet, but my favorite is anything with interesting engineering (I’m an engineer, afterall). So, for example, Hanne Falkenburg-like sweaters are just about my favorite.

I work with Elaine who sent me.
