Metric Conversions for Knitters

If you're a knitter, metric conversions can be a bit confusing! 

Three key conversions are often used in knitting -- yarns to meters, ounces to grams, and inches to centimeters (and visa versa). 

This handy metric conversion chart makes these conversions easy!  Simply find the conversion you want in the left column, and multiply as shown to get your answer.

US (Imperial) / Metric Conversion Chart:

TO CONVERT FROM:

DO THIS:

  • Ounces to Grams
  • Multiply ounces by 28.3495
  • Grams to Ounces
  • Multiply grams by .0353
  • Yards to Meters
  • Multiply yards by .9144
  • Meters to Yards
  • Multiply meters by 1.0936
  • Inches to Centimeters
  • Multiply inches by 2.5400
  • Centimeters to Inches
  • Multiply centimeters by .3937

Here are some examples:

  • To convert 100 grams to ounces, you'll multiply 100 * .0353  =  3.53 ounces
  • To convert 400 yards to meters, you'll multiply 400 * .9144  =  365.76 meters
